Juventus had reached the 1982/1983 European Cup Final as big favorites. The team had no less than 6 Italian World Cup Champions in the starting lign-up: Zoff, Gentile, Cabrini, Scirea, Tardelli and Paolo Rossi.
It was Platini and Boniek's first season with the club, and the final was Dino Zoff's and Roberto Bettega's last game before retiring!
The game was played in Athenes. The German team coached by Ernst Happel opened the score in the 9th minute through a wonder strike from Felix Magath, and kept their control on the game. The Italians tried their best to get back in the game, but Michel Platini, playing too much up front failed to score the needed goals.
