Granit Xhaka praying after match
The Gunners, along with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona had been tracking Xhaka prior to his switch to the Bundesliga from Swiss side FC Basel in May, but each of the European giants missed out on the 20-year-old’s signature as he opted for Monchengladbach.
But Arsenal could be set to test the German side’s resolve with a bid in January, after Xhaka’s impressive showings so far this campaign.
It is thought the Gunners would need to offer well in excess of the £7million Monchengladbach, who currently sit 11th in the Bundesliga, forked out for him less than six months ago.
Xhaka made his full Switzerland debut in 2011, overtaking his older brother Taulant – currently on loan to Grasshopper Club Zurich - who has yet to progress past the Under-21s.
